CALGARY, July 27, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, will make a national announcement of health research grants funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The Minister will be joined by Joan Crockatt, Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre, Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, President and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Calgary, and Dr. Jane E. Aubin, Chief Scientific Officer and Vice-President, Research, Knowledge Translation and Ethics Portfolio at CIHR.
The grants will support the work of health research leaders across Canada who are advancing knowledge in many important areas of science and building the foundation for a healthier future for Canadians and a stronger healthcare system in Canada.
Prior to the announcement, media are invited to join Minister Ambrose for a tour and photo opportunity that will feature a grant recipient at the Alberta Children's Hospital whose work focuses on stroke in newborns.
A pediatric stroke patient from Calgary and their family will participate in the event.
