OTTAWA, June 27, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, will travel to London and Edinburgh for meetings with leaders in the United Kingdom's research and science communities.
Minister Duncan will meet with the U.K. Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation; the U.K. Government Chief Scientific Adviser; the Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland; the leadership of UK Research and Innovation; the Director and CEO of the Francis Crick Institute, Europe's largest biomedical research facility; and the Executive Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, School of GeoSciences. She will also deliver remarks at the High Commission of Canada to celebrate Canada Day.
Improving equity, diversity and inclusion will be a key priority during her visit, which will include round tables with Canadian women researchers in London, the four U.K. national academies and representatives from the University of Edinburgh. She will also meet with researchers and experts about Athena SWAN (Scientific Women's Academic Network) to inform her work to advance the careers of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The Minister will be available for one-on-one media calls during the trip.
