Media Advisory - Minister Mélanie Joly to visit Vancouver's Chinatown to promote jobs and the visitor economy Français
VANCOUVER, Nov. 14, 2018 /CNW/ - The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie, will take her first official tour of Vancouver's Chinatown. She will meet with local business owners, tourism officials and visitors.
During her tour, the Minister will highlight the importance of tourism in creating good middle-class jobs and promote stronger relationships between China and Canada's tourism sectors.
This visit coincides with the Canada-China Year of Tourism, during which Canada welcomed 491,000 tourists from China in the first eight months of 2018, an increase of 2.7% over the same period in 2017. In addition, this visit takes place during Minister Joly's cross-country tour where she is participating in roundtable discussions with local tourism and travel industry experts about what more can be done to boost tourism to Canada.
