Ascent is helping to green Ontario's highways by installing the first public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in St. Thomas and Elgin County!
ST. THOMAS, ON, Dec. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Keeping true to their corporate Vision: "To be the industry leader in the provision of energy services and solutions", Ascent has installed the first public Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging station in St. Thomas & Elgin County. Located at their corporate headquarters at 135 Edward Street, St. Thomas, EV drivers can park and charge for free. The official EV charging station unveiling will take place on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
Ascent has partnered with Sun Country Highway to support their goal to "green" 90% of Canada's highways this year, making electric vehicle travel possible, adding to the over 700 EV charging stations Sun Country has already installed across Canada. (https://suncountryhighway.ca/)
This is the first of two EV chargers that Ascent is installing in St. Thomas, with plans underway to launch a 2nd public EV charging station in early in 2014.
Currently, all Sun Country Highway charging stations offer free charging; in St. Thomas, the electricity is provided by St. Thomas Energy Inc., a division of Ascent Group Inc.
We cordially invite local media and the public to participate in this informal launch. It will be a great opportunity to come out and see a Tesla Roadster. With only 2,400 Roadsters sold worldwide and valued up to $150,000, it is rare to see one of these pure electric "supercars" which are capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 3.7 seconds. For you non-gearheads, that's performance in the league of Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Porsche. Most of the battery electric vehicles (BEV) on the market today only have a range of 80-150 km on a single charge, the Tesla Roadster has a range of up to 400 km.
Now, environmentally-conscious "eco-tourists" can choose St. Thomas as a travel destination with the comfort in knowing that Ascent is helping them get back home.
