Media Advisory - Municipal candidates vie for Carleton students' support
OTTAWA, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - Tomorrow, The Carleton University Students' Association will be hosting an on-campus mayoral candidates debate at noon. Candidates Clive Doucet, Jim Watson and Larry O'Brien will try to secure student support on October 25th by outlining their vision for the City of Ottawa.
"Carleton students will have a chance to ask mayoral candidates about issues to matter to us," said Alex Sirois, President at Carleton University Students' Association, "Issues like a permanent U-Pass and affordable housing will be at the forefront of students' minds when we go to the polls on October 25th."
As part of the city's budget package, councillors voted in favour of a year-long pilot program of $145 per semester with a review to follow. Students are working to make this pilot program permanent and will be seeking commitments from all municipal candidates in this fall's election.
Students will also be hosting a Capital Ward candidates debate on campus on Wednesday, October 20th.
