Media advisory - National memorial commemorating Canada's mission in Afghanistan to be unveiled in Montreal City Hall Français
MONTREAL, June 17, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Members of the media are invited to attend a solemn ceremony in Montreal to unveil a national memorial commemorating Canada's mission in Afghanistan, for which Mr. Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal and Brigadier-general Luis de Sousa, representative of 2nd Canadian Division / Joint Task Force (EAST) will be present.

What: | The cenotaph is a memorial structure that allows the Canadian military to honor their fallen comrades in battle. During the twelve years that Canadian troops were deployed in Afghanistan, it has served as a "powerful symbol of sacrifice." The monument commemorating Afghanistan is also a way to thank the families and friends of members of the Canadian Armed Forces and all Canadians who gave their support to our troops and Canada's mission in Afghanistan. The monument will be exhibited at Montreal City Hall from 19 to 21 June, the public is invited to visit the memorial. |
