MEDIA ADVISORY - NAVY COMMEMORATES HMCS SHAWINIGAN
QUEBEC, Nov. 19 /CNW Telbec/ - On 25 November 1944, just off Port aux Basques, N.L., Her Majesty's Canadian Ship SHAWINIGAN (K 136) was lost at sea along with all 90 crewmembers on board.
To commemorate the anniversary of this loss, a ceremony will be held in Port aux Basques on Saturday, 27 November 2010.
As a part of the Navy Centennial, the Naval Reserve will produce a series of articles, one each week, in the five weeks leading up to the commemoration ceremony. The articles will focus on the Battle of the St. Lawrence, the loss of and search for HMCS SHAWINIGAN and stories of those left behind.
