MEDIA ADVISORY - Now we know: report to reveal first-ever prevalence estimate for Autism in Alberta
CALGARY, Sept. 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is now the most commonly diagnosed neurological disorder in children, and estimates of prevalence have risen dramatically over the past several decades. Recent claims suggest that families with children living with ASD are migrating to Alberta because of the higher funding for support compared to other provinces. But these claims have never actually been evaluated. Why? Because we have never known how many people are living with ASD in Alberta.
Media are invited to the release of the first-ever local prevalence estimate for ASD in Alberta. The numbers are high.
Using a school-census approach, the authors provide the numbers necessary to ensure that Alberta is prepared to address the current and future needs of individuals and families living with ASD.
