Media Advisory - Ontario college students to test their marketing skills at Centennial College competition
TORONTO, Nov. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Centennial College's School of Business is hosting 13 college teams from across Ontario in a grueling competition that will test their marketing skills and knowledge on November 15 and 16. For Centennial, it's a chance to defend its title: its 26-member team was declared the overall winner at last year's Ontario Colleges' Marketing Competition (OCMC).
For more than 30 years Ontario college students have been drawn to the annual skills competition that challenges their marketing mettle in a series of exercises that emulate real-world business problems. Eight of the 11 contests are case studies: students are given a half-hour to analyze a marketing problem, and then must present a solution to a panel of professionals working in the relevant market segments.
Tony Chapman, one of Canada's premier marketing and advertising leaders, will be sharing his experiences with students as OCMC 2012's keynote speaker. The event will also feature the Marketplace vendor exhibition and job/recruitment fair. The competition concludes with a gala dinner and awards banquet hosted by CBC News Network anchor Suhana Meharchand.
The action-packed highlight of the competition is the Quiz Bowl, a rapid-fire quiz contest that pits competitors against each other, not unlike television's Jeopardy game show.
Corporate support plays a big role in the OCMC every year. Centennial would like to acknowledge its many event sponsors, including: Scotiabank, jobpostings.ca, Dimensional Products, Zip Graphix, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Algoma University, Johnson Insurance, Pigeon Branding + Design, Davenport University, the Centennial College Alumni Association and Centennial College Student Association Inc.
