Media are invited to join the Ontario Heritage Trust at the opening of the new Parliament interpretive centre to kick off the province's celebrations for Heritage Week 2012, which runs from February 20 to 26, and to launch the commemoration of the bicentennial of the War of 1812.
Heritage Week offers a unique opportunity for Ontarians to celebrate our rich history and to recognize the important work of heritage organizations and volunteers across the province. Many communities will celebrate with their own special events and activities, including exhibits, lectures, workshops, informal gatherings and tours.
The launch event in Toronto will feature presentations, remarks from dignitaries, special performances and the opening of the exhibit, Foundations & Fire: Early Parliament and the War of 1812 Experience at York.
The Parliament interpretive centre opens to the public February 18, 2012. For more information, visit www.heritagetrust.on.ca/parliament.
The Ontario Heritage Trust is an agency of the Government of Ontario, dedicated to identifying, preserving, protecting and promoting Ontario's heritage.
