Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses' Association President in Etobicoke, Mississauga Tomorrow
TORONTO, May 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN will be in Etobicoke and Mississauga tomorrow to join ONA members at Trillium Health Centre in celebrating Nursing Week 2012.
Haslam-Stroud will mark the annual celebration of Nursing Week - a cross-country event that recognizes the profession of nursing - with site visits at Trillium's WT site in Etobicoke and M site in Mississauga. RNs at Trillium voted to join ONA last year and this is the first Nursing Week that they've been part of the union.
Nursing Week is held each year to coincide with the birthday of nurse Florence Nightingale. ONA has chosen the theme "Value the Invaluable" for Nursing Week 2012, and Haslam-Stroud will be reminding members and the public to recognize that dollar for dollar, nurses are the best value in health care today. Nurses are under more pressure than ever as austerity measures squeeze health care budgets.
ONA is the union representing 59,000 front-line RNs and allied health professionals and more than 13,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in Ontario hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, industry and clinics.
