Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses' Association President Joins South East CCAC Members in Eastern Ontario on the Picket Lines Today
PETERBOROUGH-BELLEVILLE-KINGSTON, ON, Feb. 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, President of the Ontario Nurses' Association will be supporting striking South East Community Care Access Centre workers on the picket lines in Peterborough, Belleville and Kingston today.
Haslam-Stroud and ONA First Vice-President Vicki McKenna, RN will be on the picket lines in the three locations as the CCAC Health Professionals enter day six of the strike. The workers are seeking a 1.4-per-cent wage increase, the same percentage increase that 57,000 other Ontario hospital, public health and long-term care nurses were given. The CCAC health professionals have been without a contract since March 2014 and had a two-year wage freeze in their last agreement.
Haslam-Stroud is available on the picket lines to speak to media.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 nurse practitioners, registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
