Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, to walk picket line with ETFO members in Burlington

BURLINGTON, ON, Dec. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, will join members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO), in solidarity, on the teachers' picket line Wednesday morning.

"Nurses and teachers did not cause the recession or the deficit," said Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, President of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA).

"Our work grows the economy. There is no good reason to suspend the democratic right of any workers in Ontario to collectively negotiate our working conditions."

"Elected representatives who are serious about improving our economy should be going after the bankers and the wealthy individuals whose demands for unfair tax policies did, in fact, cause the deficit."

Haslam-Stroud is a renal transplant nurse at St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton.

ONA is the union representing 59,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
