Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses' Association to Make Presentation to Committee Hearing Pre-Budget Submissions: Front-line nurses' union says patients need more care
SUDBURY, ON, Jan. 20, 2015 /CNW/ - Pam Mancuso, a registered nurse and Vice-President for the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) Region 1, will be in Sudbury tomorrow to make a presentation to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
Mancuso will discuss the many challenges facing Ontario's registered nurses and patients and provide a list of recommendations for inclusion in the 2015 Ontario budget.
Mancuso has been an RN for 27 years. She will specifically focus on the RN cuts in northern hospitals and the resulting impact on patient care. Mancuso will discuss the need to appropriately fund hospitals to enable appropriately nurse staffing levels that are necessary in the face of the increasing needs of patients. Not enough registered nurses is having a negative impact on patient health outcomes, ultimately costing the system more.
Mancuso will speak at 10:45 on Wednesday at the Radisson Hotel in Sudbury.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 nurse practitioners, registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
