Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses' Association to Make Presentation to Committee Hearing Pre-Budget Submissions: Front-line nurses' union says patients need more care
FORT ERIE, ON, Jan. 26, 2015 /CNW/ - Dianne Leclair, a registered nurse and Vice-President of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) Region 4, will be in Fort Erie tomorrow to make a presentation to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
Leclair will discuss the many challenges facing Ontario's registered nurses and patients and provide a list of recommendations for inclusion in the 2015 Ontario budget.
Leclair has been an RN for 28 years and works as a Care Coordinator for the local Community Care Access Centre. She will specifically focus on the impact of overcrowding and overcapacity in hospitals on patient care in the community.
Ontario has seen millions of hours of RN care cut from the system; care hours have not been added to community care and waiting lists continue to grow for long-term care and home care. Leclair will call for changes to the definition of Care Coordination in our CCACs and to bring the delivery of home care nursing services directly into the CCACs.
Leclair will speak at 11:00 am on Tuesday.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 nurse practitioners, registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
