Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses to Meet in Sault Ste. Marie: ONA members to discuss health-care issues, undertake community service projects this week
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, June 6, 2016 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) members will hold their June Provincial Coordinators Meeting in Sault Ste. Marie this week and leave the community in better shape than they find it.
About 150 registered nurses and allied health professionals from across the province will arrive in the city today for a three-day meeting and an optional day of education in the Sault.
While in the Sault, the ONA members will be giving back to the community, undertaking four community service projects to improve the lives of local Aboriginal communities.
"As nurses, we care about our patients and our communities," says ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN. "Our dedicated RNs want to give back while in the Sault, and use our skills and energy to improve conditions in some small way for local communities."
On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 7, the nurses will undertake four projects: revitalizing the Garden River Pow Wow Grounds and Table Rock Hiking Trails, planting a garden at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice, holding an education session and undertaking a beautification project at the Batchewana Rankin Reserve Elder Care Centre, and revitalizing the Neighbourhood Resource Centre "The Otherside" to improve the lives of Sault residents, including local Aboriginal Communities.
While in Sault Ste. Marie, Haslam-Stroud is available for media interviews and photo opportunities.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
