Media Advisory - Ontario to honour heroes in the home on first annual
Personal Support Worker Day
TORONTO, May 18 /CNW/ - Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 1 Canada.
The Ontario government is set to honour heroes in the home by declaring the first annual Personal Support Worker (PSW) Day on Wednesday, May 19.
This special day will for the first time provide official recognition for the valuable service PSWs provide in sustaining our health care system by providing a high quality of community and home-based care. Personal support workers care for seniors, adults and children with disabilities at home and in retirement and nursing homes.
SEIU Local 1 Canada will be commemorating Ontario's first-ever PSW Day by sending a delegation of personal support workers to Queens Park to speak with Ontario's Minister of Health Deb Matthews, cabinet ministers, as well as Liberal, New Democrat and Conservative MPPs about the state of Ontario's home care system and the need for training and education standards for PSWs across the province.
