OTTAWA, Jan. 25, 2017 /CNW/ - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, along with Dr. Mark Kristmanson, Chief Executive Officer of the National Capital Commission (NCC), will officially open Rideau Hall's Dairy building as the new Winter Pavilion on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 11 a.m.
The Governor General and Dr. Kristmanson will deliver remarks on this occasion. This event will take place right before thousands of people come to Rideau Hall to participate in Winter Celebration, being held from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
This newly restored Winter Pavilion will be the place where people can lace up their skates and warm up before enjoying Rideau Hall's historic skating rink, now refrigerated to extend the skating season. The pavilion will also feature an exhibition on winter festivities and sports at Rideau Hall, and how they have evolved throughout the mandates of Canada's former governors general.
The Winter Pavilion was refurbished by the NCC, a federal Crown corporation, which is the planner of the Capital and the steward of Rideau Hall and the other five official residences in the Capital Region.
Media wishing to cover the event are asked to confirm their attendance
with the Rideau Hall Press Office in advance.
On the day of the event, media must arrive via Princess Gate no later than 10:45 a.m.
The event will take place outside, near the historic skating rink and Winter Pavilion.
