KINGSTON, ON, April 27, 2015 /CNW/ - The president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) will join Kingston and area labour leaders and local dignitaries on April 28 at a National Day of Mourning remembrance event for workers killed or injured on the job.
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, a native of Kingston, will participate in the ceremony at Kingston City Hall starting at 11:30.
In a press release issued today by OPSEU, Thomas said: "As unionists we must push for even stronger measures to our health and safety laws. But we know that laws are only as good as the ability to enforce them is. So industry self-regulation isn't the answer."
