Media Advisory - OPSEU to call for "fairness test" be applied to Ontario's spring budget
TORONTO, March 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Warren (Smokey) Thomas, president of the 130,000-member Ontario Public Service Employees Union, will call for a "fairness test" as part of his presentation Friday morning before the provincial legislature's Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
OPSEU argues that last year's provincial "austerity" budget has widened the inequality gap in Ontario. Ontario is second only the Alberta in income inequality among citizens.
A "Fairness Test" would require the Ministry of Finance to analyze the impact on income inequality of new budget measures and publish its findings.
