There have been more than 300 incidents of workplace violence at the Providence Care, Mental Health Services site in the past year, mostly on the adult mental health units and the forensic unit.
The problem is getting worse as the hospital refuses to obey the law and put in place the necessary measures to control the risk of violence.
The union is filing an appeal with the Ontario Labour Relations Board to force Providence Care to place trained security professionals on an adult mental health unit where staff have repeatedly been attacked.
