MEDIA ADVISORY - OPSEU to protest corporate tax cuts in Kingston December 3

TORONTO, Dec. 2 /CNW/ - Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) members are holding a demonstration with street theatre in Kingston on Friday, December 3. They are protesting the McGuinty government's $2.4 billion-a-year cut to corporate income taxes.

OPSEU members will be conducting a street poll, asking the public: How should Ontario invest $2.4 billion? Create good jobs, invest in health care, education, children's services and other priorities, or cut corporate taxes?

In an August poll of 1,000 Ontarians by Angus Reid, 75 per cent said the McGuinty government should cancel the corporate tax cuts.  

"When we ask people this question, we find they want the money spent on things that will benefit the public good, not on making rich corporations like the Royal Bank, Rogers and Imperial Oil even richer," said Lynn Orzel, OPSEU Executive Board Member.

The $2.4 billion that the Liberals have started to give away in corporate tax cuts amounts to more than $500 from every household in Ontario.

OPSEU is holding over 20 simultaneous events across the province on December 3, protesting cuts to corporate taxes.
