Media Advisory - Oral Traditional Evidence proceedings set to begin in Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project Reconsideration hearing Français
CALGARY, Nov. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The National Energy Board (NEB) is set to begin Oral Traditional Evidence (OTE) proceedings as part of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project Reconsideration hearing.
The NEB has scheduled OTE sessions over the next three weeks, starting in Calgary, Alta. (Nov. 20-22), then in Victoria, B.C. (Nov. 26-29) and concluding in Nanaimo, B.C. (Dec. 3-6). The detailed schedule of presenters is available on the NEB website.
The NEB understands that Indigenous peoples have an oral tradition for sharing knowledge and this information cannot always be shared adequately or appropriately in writing. An invitation was extended to the approximately 45 Indigenous intervenors to provide OTE in the Reconsideration hearing and approximately 30 groups from Alberta, British Columbia, and the United States have said they intend to participate in the sessions.
The NEB will provide the live audio feed of the hearing via its website. Transcripts of each session will also be available. For more details on the OTE, please see Procedural Direction No. 2.
Media accreditation is required for all journalists who wish to attend OTE sessions in-person. Media should contact NEB Media Relations at least one business day before the specific day they wish to attend, and provide a letter requesting accreditation on official letterhead of a media organization, signed by the Publisher, Editor-in-chief, or Assignment Editor (along with their contact information). More information on media accreditation is available on the NEB website.
At the OTE sessions, all media must be able to present government-issued photo ID along with a business card. Please note that rules regarding the taking of photographs and/or video of the proceedings will be determined separately for each individual session, respecting the wishes of the participants.
