OTTAWA, Aug. 22, 2017 /CNW/ - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will host a special gathering to mark the 50th anniversary of the Order of Canada at Rideau Hall, on Saturday, August 26, 2017.
"The Order of Canada comprises an extraordinary network of talented, compassionate and dynamic people from right across this vast, diverse land, and yet, like any group of individuals, the Order is much more than the sum of its parts," said the Governor General. "Together, let's use this historic gathering to strengthen this community, to talk about the challenges and opportunities our country faces, and to find new ways to improve this great nation as we turn the corner toward the next half-century of Canada."
The outdoor event—the first to gather members of the Order since its creation—will feature inspirational remarks, cultural elements and networking opportunities for members to deepen their sense of community.
At 1:30 p.m., media are invited to cover the Governor General's speech, in addition to the remarks and musical performances offered throughout the afternoon by the following Order of Canada members: Gregory Charles, George Elliott Clarke, Édith Cloutier, Marc Kielburger, Huguette Labelle, Dany Laferrière, Suzie LeBlanc, Chantal Petitclerc, the Order of Canada Soloists and Janet Rossant.
