- Over 70 teams riding to support Candlelighters as part of Nokia's $1 million fundraising commitment to the childhood cancer charity
OTTAWA, May 5, 2016 /CNW/ - On May 11th Nokia Ottawa will host the Inside Ride, a fun indoor cycling challenge, under a large tent at its Kanata campus. As with previous years, the beneficiary is Candlelighters, a grassroots charity that provides support programs and services to young cancer patients and their families in the National Capital region. Nokia, in partnership with Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation (CTCACF), has committed to raise $1 million for the charity over the next five years, with the Inside Ride as the biggest fundraiser.
Nokia is growing this year's event by including local businesses and organizations who share the company's passion for making a difference in the community. In addition to Nokia employees, the Ride is attracting teams from several companies, schools and professional sports organizations including the Redblacks and Fury, front office staff from the Ottawa Senators, and their respective mascots. Also attending will be Senators defenceman Chris Phillips and his wife Erin, Kanata Carleton MP, Karen McCrimmon and City Councillor, Marianne Wilkinson, in addition to 11 year-old Candlelighters' Ambassador, Vienna.
About the Ride: Teams consist of six cyclists with each member riding for ten minutes to fun, fast-paced, uplifting music. As the cyclists rotate, they are cheered on by teammates, friends, colleagues and spectators. Volunteers record team mileage, organizers score costumes and team spirit, and the Inside Ride Crew calculate fundraising totals. There are medals at stake for outstanding team fundraising, team spirit, team costumes, team mileage and top male, female and volunteer fundraiser. View this video from the 2016 Inside Ride.
