Media Advisory - Oxfam Canada's 'Clean a Hotel Room Challenge' To Highlight Global Exploitation of Housekeepers
TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - At sunrise on October 17, Oxfam Canada will transform a busy corner in downtown Toronto into an outdoor hotel room to highlight the release of a new report entitled Tourism's Dirty Secret: The Exploitation of Hotel Housekeepers. The 'Clean a Hotel Room Challenge' will give the media and members of the public a taste of what daily life is like for millions of housekeepers in the global hotel industry – which relies on women's cheap labour to maximize profits.
When: |
Tuesday, October 17, 2017 |
7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. |
|
Where: |
Northwest corner of Queen St. & Peter St., downtown Toronto |
What: |
Oxfam Canada staff and volunteers will challenge people to step into a housekeeper's shoes for a few minutes. The tasks and time crunch will demonstrate the unjust treatment of women working in the hotel industry, which is driving the global inequality crisis by putting profits before people. |
