MEDIA ADVISORY - Parents set to protest school closures
TORONTO, Nov. 21, 2016 /CNW/ -Parents and supporters of the Ontario Alliance Against School Closures (OAASC) will protest at Queen's Park Monday to urge the Ontario government to place a moratorium on rural school closures and change its Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline.

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. |
Place: |
Queen's Park, 111 Wellesley Street West, Toronto |
The OAASC say the guideline fails to consider the effects of school closures and amalgamations on rural communities.
"Rural school closures means long bus rides. Students will leave home before sunrise and return after sunset," says Felicia Fahey, an OAASC member. "They will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities or hold a part-time job in their community, which many rely on for post-secondary tuition."
Speakers at the rally will include Susan MacKenzie, OAASC; Doug Reycraft, Community Schools Alliance; Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President, Ontario Public Service Employees Union; and Lisa Gretzky, education critic, New Democratic Party.
