Media Advisory - Parlee Beach hosts the 2014 Canadian Surf Lifesaving Championships this weekend Français
FREDERICTON, NB, Aug. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - New Brunswick hosts lifeguards from across Canada as they compete in the 14th annual Lifesaving Society Canadian Surf Lifesaving Championships this weekend. Almost 200 competitors will take part in beach and ocean events at Parlee Beach Provincial Park.
The championships are conducted in three divisions: 16–19 years, Open and Masters.
For many competitors, this competition will be there last chance to hone their skills before leaving for the Lifesaving World Championships in Montpellier, France in September.
Lifesaving sport is an international athletic activity that combines lifesaving, swimming, running, and water craft races. Lifesaving sport is the only athletic competition whose skills are first learned for humanitarian reasons. Lifesaving sport is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Commonwealth Games Federation.
