Media Advisory - Peterborough Public Health Nurses Hold Information Picket This Afternoon
PETERBOROUGH, ON, Feb. 11, 2015 /CNW/ - Public health nurses working for the Peterborough County-City Health Unit are holding a public information picket this afternoon.
The nurses, members of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA), will join other health unit workers from CUPE at Peterborough City Hall today at 4:30 pm.
The health unit employees will distribute leaflets that outline concerns regarding underfunding of the health unit's services, the impact on those delivering the services and impact on the community's health.
The public health nurses provide wellness promotion and illness prevention programs in the community, including follow-up and home visits for families with newborns, immunization and sexual health clinics, follow-up for infectious diseases and more.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 nurse practitioners, registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
