Media Advisory - Photo and Interview Opportunities - First-Ever Canadian Pain Summit Qualifies Need for National Pain Strategy
Ottawa plays host to pain experts from across the globe with agenda to combat pain
OTTAWA, April 23, 2012 /CNW/ - Experts from across the globe will join the Canadian Pain Society (CPS), the Canadian Pain Coalition (CPC), members of the pain community, various stakeholder groups and government officials in Ottawa for the first-ever Canadian Pain Summit on Tuesday, April 24.
Chronic pain is a silent epidemic which is poorly recognized and poorly treated, affecting an estimated one in five Canadians. Chronic pain is associated with the worst quality of life as compared to other chronic diseases. It is estimated that chronic pain costs the Canadian economy $60 billion dollars annually - mostly in lost workplace productivity.
The National Pain Strategy is a call to action developed by clinicians, researchers, stakeholder groups and people living with pain to address the social, economic and personal impact of pain on Canadians. The Strategy indentifies key target areas for change, including: awareness and education, access, research and ongoing monitoring.
Canadians are urged to visit www.canadianpainsummit2012.ca to endorse the call for the National Pain Strategy.
Media are invited to attend the Summit. Advance interviews, on-site and telephone interviews can be arranged with pain experts, patients and Summit officials.
