Daily Bread and Second Harvest partner with Ontario Food Terminal
TORONTO, Dec. 6, 2013 /CNW/ -
WHAT: | Toronto's two largest food distribution charities, Second Harvest and Daily Bread, will announce a brand-new partnership with the wholesalers and farmers of the Ontario Food Terminal. Second Harvest and Daily Bread supply food and resources for over 370 community agencies and 450 food programs, providing a vital service for people struggling with hunger and poverty. Anthony Arrigo, the president of F.G. Lister, a long-time wholesaler and supporter of food banks and food rescue, will be among those on hand to discuss the partnership and give to the cause by donating skids of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Second Harvest, Daily Bread and the Ontario Food Terminal Board are collaborating to reduce the waste of healthy and nutritious food that sometimes occurs during food distribution by diverting it to those in need. Donations of edible, nutritious food from the Ontario Food Terminal's vendors will help increase an important source of nutrition for thousands who rely on food banks and meal programs across Toronto.
