Media Advisory - Photo Opportunities - KAIROS Cross-Canada G20 Climate
Justice Tour Comes to Victoria, BC
VICTORIA, BC, June 11 /CNW/ -
WHO: KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives in conjunction with the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition and the Council of Canadians presents KAIROS Southern and Indigenous partners speaking out about the connection between climate justice and the G20. This presentation is organized locally by KAIROS Victoria, Pacific People's Partnership, and the Victoria Wilderness Committee. WHAT: Town hall discussion and photo exhibit WHERE: St. John the Divine Church Hall, 1611 Quadra St., Victoria WHEN: Monday, June 14, 2010 from 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. WHY: While Canada welcomes the world's most powerful leaders to the G-8 and G20 summits in June, KAIROS and Canadians welcome Southern and Indigenous partners to share with us the real impacts of climate change on their daily lives and to discuss what a just solution to the climate crisis could look like. Those who are most affected by climate change have no place at the G20 decision-making table. This "Global Town Hall" is a chance for Canadians to come together in a dialogue of real substance to talk about real solutions. Participants will have an opportunity to hear from partners and local experts and engage in dialogue with them and each other as they search for effective solutions to the global injustice of climate change.
The partner participating in the Victoria stop of the tour is:
Francois Pihaatae, Ecumenical Animator on Climate Change for the Pacific Conference of Churches, Tahiti.
Local speakers are Tria Donaldson (Wilderness Committee and Canadian Youth Climate Coalition), Harjap Grewal (BC-Yukon Regional Organizer for the Council of Canadians), and Dr. Stephen Tyler (Climate Change Adaptation Policy Advisor and President of Adaptive Resource Management Ltd.).
Victoria is also hosting a photo exhibit from the Portraits of Resilience project. These photos were taken by children living in the global North who are working to combat and adapt to climate change.
