About the Code of Silence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Government Secrecy
For more than a decade, the Canadian Association of Journalists handed out its Code of Silence award to the single government department, agency or public body that put that extra bit of elbow grease into keeping any sunlight from reaching the public's business. Previous winners include a former prime minister's office, omnibus government legislation and Canada's "financial intelligence unit." In 2017, four press-freedom groups expanded the award, which is now handed out to the most secretive federal, provincial and municipal bodies across Canada.
