MEDIA ADVISORY - PRESS CONFERENCE - New Government of Canada funding announcement to support UNICEF's innovative technology to save vulnerable children and newborns
VANCOUVER, April 30, 2014 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada will announce new support for a UNICEF program using innovative technology to save the world's most vulnerable children and newborns.
The announcement will be made by the Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C, Minister of National Revenue and MP for Delta—Richmond East, on behalf of the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie. She will be joined by Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood—Port Kells, British Columbia. UNICEF Canada's President and CEO David Morley will speak on implementation of the new program, UNICEF's use of innovative technologies to reach vulnerable children and Canada's global leadership in improving maternal, newborn and child health.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Canada will host Saving Every Woman Every Child: Within Arm's Reach, an international summit that will shape the future of Child and Maternal Health collaborations in Canada and around the world from May 28-30, 2014, in Toronto.
Through the Canadian-led Muskoka Initiative, the Government of Canada in partnership with organizations like UNICEF continues to lead global efforts in improving maternal and child health. Innovative ideas and technologies have proven critical in saving the lives of newborns and children and are often more cost effective and time efficient.
