Media Advisory - Press Conference: Thousands of injured accident victims cheated by auto insurers
TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2018 /CNW/ - Lawyers launching a series of court actions against the largest auto insurance companies in Ontario will be speaking at a press conference on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 9:30 am in the Queen's Park media studio.
The lawsuits allege that these auto insurers treated thousands of accident victims unfairly over a period of more than 8 years, and deliberately shortchanged them on their entitlements under the government-designed auto insurance scheme. The court action seeks millions of dollars in compensation for affected individuals and a court order stopping the practice.
Documents will be revealed that suggest that insurance companies repeatedly ignored direction from the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), the provincial agency responsible for policing the government-designed auto insurance, while the regulator turned a blind eye to the conduct.
