Media advisory - PSAC shows support for workers on strike at St-John's airport
ST-JOHN'S, Sept. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - In a show of solidarity, the PSAC National Executive Vice-President, Chris Aylward, will be on the picket line at St-John's Airport from 2 to 4 p.m. (NDT) on Thursday September 27. PSAC Atlantic Regional Vice-President Jeannie Baldwin will also be in attendance.
Aylward indicated that these workers can count on the full support of the PSAC as well as the entire labour movement in this country.
They have been on strike since September 11, 2012. They have not seen a wage increase in four years and are seeking an increase that would bring their wages in line with comparable international airports.
Aylward started his labour activism career as a shop steward for the PSAC Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) Local 90000 in the St-John's Taxation Centre. For this trip to Newfoundland, Brother Aylward will be flying in and out of Gander Airport.
