"We hope to have a chance to speak to RA members as they're coming in," said Mike Armstrong, Unifor national representative. "RA workers want members and patrons to enjoy the centre. In exchange for the work they do every day, they need a new contract and more job security."
Unifor Local 4270 represents the 35 unionized staff members at the RA Centre, who have been without a collective agreement since May. The union is now in a legal strike position. No new bargaining dates have been scheduled.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 305,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. Unifor works to protect its members and play a leadership role in building thriving, safe workplaces and a strong economy so all workers in Canada have a good job, a decent standard of living and greater equality.
