Media Advisory - Rick Hansen and David Frum to Headline 2015 Higher Education Summit

TORONTO, Nov. 10, 2015 /CNW/ - More than 700 delegates from across Ontario will be attending the 2015 Higher Education Summit and Premier's Awards gala. The two-day conference runs Sunday, Nov. 15, and Monday, Nov. 16, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.

The keynote speaker this year is Paralympian and philanthropist Rick Hansen, who will talk about visible and invisible barriers to success.

Other featured speakers at this year's conference are political commentator David Frum, social media expert Sue Gardner, author and neuroscientist Daniel J. Levitin, and economic inequality expert Richard V. Reeves.

Training, Colleges and Universities Minister Reza Moridi will lead the presentation on Monday evening of the Premier's Awards for outstanding college graduates. There are 116 graduates from all 24 colleges nominated for this year's awards.

The Higher Education Summit, run by Colleges Ontario, is one of Canada's premier conferences on post-secondary education. The conference is open to the media. All sessions take place at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel at 123 Queen Street West.

Sunday, Nov. 15

1:15 p.m. –  Richard V. Reeves, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, will discuss inequality in Canada and the role that higher education can play in promoting – or inhibiting – mobility and opportunity.

2:15 p.m. – Sue Gardner, the former executive director of the foundation that runs Wikipedia, will discuss the future of the web. She will look at how the currently free content on the web is affecting education, journalism, free speech and democracy.

Monday, Nov. 16

8:30 a.m. – David Frum, the former White House insider and senior editor at The Atlantic, will offer insights about our political and economic future.

9:30 a.m. – Author and scientist Daniel J. Levitin shows how people can use the brain's natural operations and adaptability to create a more satisfying and successful life.

1:15 p.m. – Rick Hansen, Canadian Paralympian and a philanthropist, will deliver his keynote address on accessibility and inclusion for a better world.

3:00 p.m. - Advertising veteran and radio host Terry O'Reilly will outline what storytelling can accomplish with a limited marketing budget.

3:00 p.m. - John Baker, president and CEO, D2L, will discuss how technology can help create an inclusive and personal learning experience for all.
