JUSTICE WITH HONORARY DOCTORATE WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 20
TORONTO, Oct. 13 /CNW/ -As part of this year's fall convocation ceremonies, Ryerson University will award an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree to the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin P.C., Chief Justice of Canada, on Wednesday October 20 at 9:30 am.
First called to the bar in her native Alberta in 1969, Chief Justice McLachlin is an outstanding jurist. McLachlin's career as a lawyer and law professor ended when she was appointed Judge of the County Court of Vancouver in 1981, shortly followed by her appointment to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, also in 1981. Chief Justice McLachlin was appointed Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1989 and eleven years later she made history with her appointment as the first female Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. Today, Chief Justice McLachlin remains at the helm of Canada's highest court.
