of the Driving of the Last Spike
CRAIGELLACHIE, BC, Nov. 7 /CNW/ - At a celebration earlier today, Canadian Pacific and Parks Canada commemorated the 125th anniversary of the driving of the Last Spike and the completion of Canada's first transcontinental railway.
The event was held at Last Spike Monument in Craigellachie, BC from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm PST and featured the driving of a new, commemorative spike. Mr. Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, along with Mr. Fred Green, Canadian Pacific President and Chief Executive Officer, participated in the special event which featured Elders of the Shuswap First Nation, live musical performances by local youth, a demonstration by Lord Strathcona Horsemen and a Howitzer salute, and area mayors.
