planned for 125th Anniversary of the Driving of the Last Spike
Canadian Pacific and the Government of Canada to commemorate completion of Canada's transcontinental railway
CRAIGELLACHIE, BC, Nov. 7 /CNW/ - On November 7, Canadian Pacific and Parks Canada are hosting a public celebration commemorating the 125th anniversary of the driving of the Last Spike and the completion of Canada's first transcontinental railway.
This historic event symbolizing national unity will be held at Last Spike Monument in Craigellachie, BC from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm PST and will feature the driving of a new, commemorative spike. Mr. Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, along with Mr. Fred Green, Canadian Pacific President and Chief Executive Officer, will participate in this special event.
The event includes live musical performances by local youth, a demonstration by Lord Strathcona Horsemen and a Howitzer salute. Event involves representatives of the federal government, Canadian Pacific, members of the Shuswap First Nation, area mayors, local schools, and special guests from Lord Strathcona Horse Regiment (Royal Canadians) and the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery.
