Capital Markets to give new bikes to lucky kids
TORONTO, May 1 /CNW/ - On Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Westin Harbour Castle Convention Centre, 2 Harbour Square, at 4:15 p.m., in the Frontenac Ballroom, BMO Capital Markets, in partnership with the Toronto Police Service and the Asia Pacific Community Consultative Committee, will distribute brand-new BMX bicycles to dozens of lucky kids, as part of their commitment of giving back to the community.
More than 700 BMO employees will gather to help build more than 80 bikes for children, aged eight to 12, from the Asia Pacific community.
"There's nothing more rewarding than getting involved in the community and seeing how just a small effort can generate such tremendous benefit. We feel fortunate to be able to give back and commit ourselves to action," said Tom Milroy, Chief Executive Officer, BMO Capital Markets.
"We built these bikes because we wanted to make a difference. We hope the children who have received a bike will have a great and safe summer," Milroy said.
Kryptonite locks and helmets will also be presented to the youngsters, who will then take part in a Bike Safety Rodeo.
The Asia Pacific Community Consultative Committee was developed to enhance understanding and community partnerships between police and members of the Filipino, Japanese, Cambodian, Laotian, Korean and Vietnamese communities.
"This is an exciting opportunity to connect children from our diverse Asia Pacific communities to bicycles, road safety and the Toronto Police Service, thanks to the energy and generosity of BMO Capital Markets and their employees," said Staff Superintendent Jane Wilcox, co-chair of the Asia Pacific Consultative Committee.
Photographs of the bikes being presented to the children will be available on CNW after 4:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 1.
