MEDIA ADVISORY - SECOND HARVEST, SOBEYS AND BMO LAUNCH HARVEST FOR HUNGER
CAMPAIGN
TORONTO, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - Second Harvest, a charitable organization that rescues and delivers fresh food to social service agencies in Toronto, is teaming up with Sobeys and BMO Financial Group to raise funds for their fall fresh food drive. The campaign, Harvest for Hunger, will take place during one of the charity's peak seasons for food demand.
WHAT: | Sobeys shoppers will be offered the opportunity to make a donation of $5 upon checkout to Second Harvest. Sobeys will match donations up to $10,000. Also, for every customer who applies for the new No Fee BMO Club Sobeys MasterCard in select Toronto stores, BMO will donate $10 to Second Harvest. Funds raised will go towards helping Second Harvest cover the cost of collecting and delivering food donations. |
WHEN: | October 1 - October 8, 2010 (inclusive). |
WHERE: | All Toronto Sobeys stores (visit www.secondharvest.ca for a complete list of locations). |
WHY: |
The Harvest for Hunger campaign will help provide fresh food to Torontonians in need (40 per cent of recipients are children and youth). Last year, Second Harvest delivered over six million pounds of food to social service agencies in Toronto. The Harvest for Hunger campaign will help support the charity in their continuing efforts to collect fresh food and distribute that food to children in breakfast programs, women fleeing domestic abuse, homeless people and thousands of others who have fallen on hard times. |
