Event: If Quitting Is Not An Option ... Is Vaping?
Information: https://sixthestate.ca/events/if-quitting-is-not-an-option-is-vaping/
When: January 23, 2018
Where: Ottawa Marriott Hotel, 100 Kent Street
Program begins at 12:00 p.m. and finishes at 1:00 p.m.
Sherwin has taken a stand against the federal government's Bill S-5: An Act to amend the Tobacco Act and the Non-smokers' Health Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. His position is that Bill S-5 should not include vaping products by classifying them on the same shelf as tobacco products. He sponsored E-1237, an online e-petition, which calls for the suspension of Bill S-5 and for a distinction between tobacco and vaping products. The petition gathered 10,251 signatures while it remained online until the December 23, 2017 closing, making it one of the most successful online petitions submitted to the Canadian Parliament. Only 500 signatures are required for a petition to be read in the House of Commons. The petition gathered signatures from across Canada.
Sherwin is available for media interviews following the Sixth Estate panel discussion.
