Largest charity garage sale in Canada supports women's shelters and programs to end family violence

TORONTO, May 9, 2017 /CNW/ - On Saturday, May 13, more than 70 Royal LePage offices and other community locations across Canada will host the 9^th Annual National Garage Sale for Shelter. This one-day charity garage sale is held in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, an organization committed to funding women's shelters and programs that end domestic violence. Since 2009, the National Garage Sale for Shelter has raised more than $2.5 million in support of women's shelters across the country, violence prevention initiatives and teen healthy relationship programs. 

Media are invited to attend their local National Garage Sale for Shelter site on Saturday, May 13.  Representatives from Royal LePage will be available for interviews at all National Garage Sale for Shelter sites across Canada.

How can the community get involved?

Members of the community are encouraged to participate and help de-clutter for a cause. Donate gently used items to your participating Royal LePage office by Friday, May 12 and stop by your local Garage Sale for Shelter location on Saturday, May 13 to find some great treasures and help support a worthy cause.

"Violence against women happens in all communities and at every age and income level," says Shanan Spencer-Brown, Executive Director of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. "Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16 and more than 362,000 children are exposed to domestic violence every year. On average, every six days a Canadian woman is killed by her current or former partner. That's why we are so committed to providing a safe haven for women and children who have experienced violence and abuse."
