Media Advisory - Sixth Annual OIPC Invasive Plant Symposium
Practitioners and Policy Makers meet to respond to the growing threat of invasive plant species.
TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - The sixth annual Ontario Invasive Plant Council (OIPC) Annual General Meeting and Invasive Plant Symposium will be held October 16thand 17that the Delta Guelph Hotel in Guelph, Ontario. The first day will feature speakers and the annual general meeting, with tours planned for the second day. Representatives from approximately 100 organizations across Ontario are expected to attend. The public is also invited to attend the symposium.
"Every year, practitioners and policy makers gather for this meeting, to share ideas, to network and to hear a wide range of excellent speakers. We are always amazed at the collaboration and partnerships that are formed during the conference," said OIPC Chair, Owen Williams. This year's session topics include: Biological Controls, Restoration and Management of Multiple Species, and the Future of Invasive Species in Ontario. Sponsors for the symposium include the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Hydro One, Engage Agro, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Tours will be held at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario and the Guelph Arboretum; both at the University of Guelph. The symposium itinerary and registration form (which is required to attend the conference) are posted on the OIPC website at www.ontarioinvasiveplants.ca
The Ontario Invasive Plant Council (OIPC) is a nonprofit, multi-agency organization comprised of conservation authorities, academic institutions, aboriginal organizations, stewardship networks, private consultants, industry and environmental nongovernment organizations, as well as all levels of government. The OIPC was founded in response to the need for a coordinated provincial response to the growing threat of invasive plants.
