GLOBAL GENDER RIGHTS ORGANIZATION TO RELEASE NEW SURVEY DATA EXPLORING CANADIAN GIRLS' EXPERIENCES WITH GENDER-BASED DISCRIMINATION, SEXUAL HARASSMENT & INSECURITY.
TORONTO, Oct. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - On International Day of the Girl, Thursday, October 11, 2018, Plan International Canada Global Ambassador Sophie Grégoire Trudeau will join Plan International Canada president & CEO, Caroline Riseboro, and a fierce group of Defiant Girls at the CF Toronto Eaton Centre for the release of new survey data exploring the realities of gender equality for girls 14- to 24-years-old in Canada today.
Aligned with the one-year anniversary of the #MeToo movement, the Plan International Canada report, Girls in Canada: Gender Equality Today, conducted by Nanos Research, reveals just how 'normal' sexual harassment, gender discrimination and insecurity continue to be for girls across Canada.
On a day dedicated to girls' rights, Plan International Canada will call on Canadians to defy this normal, and will stage a symbolic 'moment of defiance' photo op with Madame Grégoire Trudeau and more than 20 Defiant Girls – young women who dare to defy normal each day in pursuit of gender equality.
Media are invited to capture the event's opening remarks delivered by Madame Grégoire Trudeau, the official survey release issued by Caroline Riseboro and a selection of Defiant Girls, as well as the photo op.

About Plan International & International Day of the Girl
Plan International Canada led the global movement to make International Day of the Girl a reality, garnering all-party support from the Canadian Parliament and the United Nations. Since 2012, we have celebrated it annually, igniting a global mass movement to amplify girls' voices, advocate for their rights, and elevate their position in society.
Since 2016, as part of International Day of the Girl, Plan International has facilitated thousands of 'seat shares' with girls from around the world who step into high-profile roles for a day to demonstrate the importance of girls' visibility at all levels of influence and their equal access to opportunity. Notable seat shares have included: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Finland, the President of El Salvador, CEO of Google Australia and Chief of the Ugandan National Police.
Around the world in 2018, Plan International will engage more than 1,000 girls from across more than 70 countries in IDG activities! Learn more about this year's activities here.
