Media Advisory - Students call for the re-integration of international
students into OHIP
TORONTO, April 13 /CNW/ - Students will bring thousands of petitions to Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care to address the severe challenges and limitations that international students and postdoctoral fellows face to accessing health care in Ontario. While the Ontario government places a high priority on the internationalisation of the education system and economy, international students and postdoctoral fellows - and their dependents - are currently excluded from the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Thousands of "Healthcare without Borders - OHIP for International Students" petitions have been collected, calling for the re-integration of international students and postdoctoral fellows into OHIP. International students contribute more than two billion dollars annually to Ontario's economy and deserve to be able to access full emergency health benefits.
