Media Advisory - Students to hit the streets to talk about Unfair Elections Act

TORONTO, April 24, 2014 /CNW/ - This afternoon, students from the Greater Toronto Area will be at Yonge and Dundas to talk with members of the public about Bill C-23, dubbed the Unfair Elections Act. If the act passes, it would limit access to voting for more than 520,000 Canadians.

Students will also be raising awareness about the National Day of Action Against the Unfair Elections Act taking place in communities across the country on Saturday, April 26, 2014, including Toronto.

The Unfair Elections Act will eliminate key provisions of our current election system - including vouching and voter ID cards. The Act will also muzzle Elections Canada, cancelling voter education and engagement programs like Student Vote. Dozens of prominent Canadians and current and former elections officials have come out in opposition to the Act.

The Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario is the largest student organization in the province, representing more than 350,000 college, undergraduate and graduate students in all regions of the province.
