Media Advisory - Supreme Court of Canada Rules in High Profile Niqab Case Today
Lawyer David Butt, representing the complainant, responds to the Supreme Court of Canada's decision
TORONTO, Dec. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, the Supreme Court of Canada will release its ruling in the case of N.S. vs. Her Majesty the Queen, et al. N.S. is a complainant in a sexual assault case in Ontario. She is a practicing Muslim and wears a niqab - a veil-type cloth that covers all of her face, except her eyes - which she would like to wear during her testimony against the accused. The Supreme Court of Canada is releasing its decision on how to balance the right of a defendant to face their accuser with the complainant's right to freedom of religion.
